Import (replicate) Printer drivers from another server

Follow these steps to import printer drivers from another Windows 2008 R2 print server.

Procedure

  1. Open Print Management console from Start menu. In Print Management console, right click on "print management" > select "Add/Remove servers" > Add any existing Print server which has all printer drivers already installed
  2. In Print Management console, expand Print servers > right click on the Print server which you just added > select "export printers to a file"
  3. In Print Management console, expand Print servers > right click on local or destination Print server to which you want to replicate driver > select "import printers from a file". In import wizard, select the file which you created in above steps and in "select import options" wizard screen, select following options
    • Import method        : keep existing printers
    • List in the directory : Don't list any printers

What to check when Import fails

  1. Import details are logged in the eventlog. Check Application eventlog for details about import operation
  2. Check if Print$ share (\\destination-server\print$) exists on the destination server
